The cost for a vocational expert assessment (forTDIU purposes) differs from one expert to the next but expect to pay $1,000 to $2,500 or greater.  TDG has a capped fee. *Depending on the uniqueness and intricacies of a case the charges could be as little as $500.

 

WHAT IS A VOCATIONAL CONSULTANT?

A vocational consultant is a professional educated at the graduate level and has completed specialized training in the physical and mental requirements of work to accomplish the experience of employment.

WHAT IS A VOCATIONAL EXPERT (VE)?

A vocational expert is a vocational consultant that has prepared and presented vocational materials (opinion reports)  in a legal matters and typically has defended his/her opinion reports in formal legal procedings, such as depositions or at trial.

WHAT TYPE OF QUALIFICATIONS DOES A VOCATIONAL EXPERT POSSESS?

First and foremost, the VE should have earned a graduate degree in Rehabilitation Counseling. This major focuses on disability and employment with specificity that no other degree program provide.

 

REHABILITATION COUNSELOR AS DESCRIBED BY THE OCCUPATIONAL INFORMATION NETWORK (O*NET):

"Counsels individuals to maximize the independence and employability of persons coping with personal, social, and vocational difficulties that result from birth defects, illness, disease, accidents, aging, or the stress of daily life."

DO REHABILITATION COUNSELORS REQUIRE A LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATION?

YES! Some states (but not all) have licensing requirments. Licensing is a governmental process, while certification is (typically) a voluntary process.

The Certified Rehabilitation Counselor or CRC is the gold-standard for vocational experts but this credential while encompassing evaluation is not specific and unique to evaluation of vocational potential. The Certified Vocational Evaluator (CVE) is focused primarily on the evaluation process. 

Seek a vocational with both credentials.  A credential awarded by the American Board of Vocational Experts (ABVE) is an excellent alternative. The ABVE is not recognizied however as a "counseling" credential. The Social Security Administration accepts only the CRC and the ABVE for the performance of vocational expert witness role in SSA hearings.

DO I NEED AN ATTORNEY OR NON-ATTORNEY REPRESENTATIVE?

No.  But you are entitled to representation. We are the experts that attorneys hire to determine if a veteran's service-connected disabilities interfere with the veterans ability to perform work and access the labor market.

YES - You can hire us directly. Most do.  We have helped numerous military veterans prove their inability to work (based on service-connected disabilities) resulting in a 100% disability finding.

DOES TDG OFFER A FREE INITIAL PHONE CONSULTATION?

Absolutely.  In fact the Veteran will speak directly with the vocational disability expert. The average call length is 45 minutes.  Often the expert is able to learn enough during this consultation to make strong and accurate case predictions. We don't accept an assignment unless we know that we can prove  that the veteran is unable to perform substantial gainful employment and therefore is 100% VOCATIONALLY DISABLED.

 

IS A FORMAL WRITTEN REPORT DEVELOPED?

Yes. A vocational disability analysis is a very thorough research-focused project, so-to-speak which culminates with the development of a formal professional report. This report when submitted to a third party organization, such as a medical center, physician, attorney, insurance company, government entity, educational institution becomes a protected document.  Only a professional with graduate level credentials including professional certification should author a vocational disability expert analysis.

DOES TDG OFFER A PAYMENT PLAN?

Yes. A small retainer is paid to establish the professional relationship. After 30 days another small payment is collected and the balance is due at the completion of the project.

WHAT PAYMENT METHODS DOES TDG ACCEPT?

Payment methods include: US Postal Money Order, or electronically via Venmo.

WHAT MATERIALS AND DOCUMENTS WILL THE EXPERT REQUIRE?

  • VA Records

  • DD214

  • VA Disability Decision Letters

  • Historical employment records, if available

WHAT DOES THE PROCESS ENTAIL?

Completion of a diagnostic interview to determine work history, educational history, military history, skill-set evaluation, completion of a transferable skills analyis, etc.

WHAT TYPE OF RESOURCES ARE UTILIZED TO FORM A VOCATIONAL DISABILITY EXPERT OPINION? 

The library of resources frequently utilized is far too vast to list here.

ARE Witness/Lay Statements, AKA "Buddy Letters" REQUIRED?
